A hero of community foundations

I attended a fascinating presentation last night by Peter Hero. Peter is the former president of Community Foundation Silicon Valley. In the 17 years he led the group, it grew from a small foundation with less than $10 million in assets to a regional center for philanthropy, with more than 600 philanthropic funds under its umbrella and combined assets in excess of $1bn.

He is credited with inspiring the development of corporate philanthropy within many organizations in the Silicon valley.

Within what is now called the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, thousands of individuals, families, corporations, nonprofit and government organizations and community leaders work to address critical needs and make an impact locally, nationally and internationally, through effective programs and inspired philanthropy.

The presentation was delivered by Engage!, a program of the Community Foundation of Ottawa, designed to inspire local entrepreneurs to invest in the future of the community.
